Grown-ups, welcome to the Crew!
The Kindness Crew is a colourful group of friends who see, feel and experience the world in different ways. Through stories, adventures and plenty of chaos, they help children discover something important:
“There’s always more to someone than you can see.”
A little more curiosity. A little less assuming.
Children are naturally curious about one another. The Kindness Crew turns that curiosity into something positive — helping children discover that people can think, communicate, learn and experience the world in different ways. It isn't about defining someone by a difference. It's about discovering the whole person.
THE THREE KINDNESS RULES
1. ASK, DON’T ASSUME
We don’t always know why someone thinks, feels or acts the way they do. Instead of guessing, children learn to ask, listen and find out.
2. RESPECT IS THE RULE
Everyone deserves to be treated with respect, even when they think, communicate, learn or experience things differently from us.
3. BE CURIOUS AND KIND
Stay curious about other people, listen to what they have to say and choose kindness in the way you respond.
It started with a simple thought…
“What if children learned to ask before they assumed?”
The Kindness Crew was created by Simon Houghton, who was born with severe hearing loss and knows what it feels like when people make assumptions about what you can — or can't — do.
After spending much of his career helping adults understand one another better, Simon started wondering: What if we began much earlier?
The result was The Kindness Crew — a group of characters designed to entertain children while helping them become a little more curious about the people around them.
“Sometimes the most important thing we can teach children is simply to wonder what else might be going on.”
The Crew are already heading into classrooms.
The Kindness Crew 4 Schools is a non-profit that uses colourful characters, animation and short classroom activities to help primary school children explore kindness, curiosity and hidden differences. Schools can begin with the animated Assembly Challenge, then explore the Kindness Journey at their own pace.
THE ASSEMBLY CHALLENGE
Two short animated assemblies introduce the Crew, the three Kindness Rules and a simple challenge: Could there be more going on than we first realise?
THE KINDNESS JOURNEY
A classroom adventure through six different worlds, with short Kindness Moments helping children explore inclusion, understanding, friendship, courage, teamwork and kindness.
